How to generate business idea?

Copyright © Cecilia Chang

Business ideas can pop up in your mind anytime, anywhere. So the best option is to write it down whenever something comes to your mind, you'll never know when it does come in handy one day.
To decide what kind of business would be best suitable for you, begin with what you know. If you've spent years working as an IT consultant or you love to decorate photo albums as a hobby, consider how you can make use of that experience and turn it into a successful business.
You might also find great business ideas in your lifestyle. Look around you; your workplace; shops etc. Do you see any needs which are unfulfilled or can you think of a way to make it better? If so, you might have found a profitable business.
Here are 4 more suggestions to help you choose a right business for you:
1. Do what you love to do.
It's important to pick a business that you will love running it. Many people start a business for the wrong reason: to get rich or sell high in demand services or products. If you don't enjoy what you do, you will not be successful, at least not from your personal satisfaction. Sure, the profits can be high, but the feeling of working in a business you don't enjoy is a high price to pay. If you don't enjoy what you do, the business will become a chore, not a joy.
Find a job you love and you don't have to work a day in your life.
2. Make an existing idea better.
Many people thought that they have to come up with new business ideas to be successful but that is not true. Most successful businesses are created not of innovative, but of needs. Instead of coming up with a new idea, take a look around you and see where there is any business that needs improvement.
Many successful businesses are the outcome of taking an already established business idea and making it better. Bill Gates of Microsoft did not have a great business idea but he bought somebody else's idea and improves it.
3. Focus on a type of business line.
Many businesses fail trying to suit all peoples' needs. Try to decide a niche that you would enjoy working in and think about starting a business of it. If you love doing collage, consider starting a scrap booking business. If you enjoy flying all over the world, think about becoming an air stewardess. Get the idea? Focus on a niche and become an expert in that field.
4. Know your market well.
If your local business pool is already saturated with others doing the same thing you want to do, chances are you will fail. To succeed, you will have to be innovative to stand out from the crowd. If you can't do that, you better choose another business.
Lastly, take your time to think. Do some surveys on who use the product or service you are going to proceed to see their comments or feedbacks about it.
Whatever business you choose, I encourage you to do a detailed planning in making the right decision.
