Do you find yourself a little sadder or depressed during the late fall and winter months. Many people suffer from the winter blues or what is commonly referred to as seasonal affective disorder.

Signs of the winter blues are the following; while usually not serious, the winter blues does cause a person to be a little gloomy, depressed and sad. You might feel the need to sleep more and have a lot less energy. A lot of people with the winter blues have an urge or crave carbohydrates and some people just feel blah.

If you think you are suffering from the winter blues here are a few tips. Try to get as much sunlight as possible. If you have difficulty getting sunlight daily, go to a tanning salon a couple of times per week or get a lamp that reproduces sun light. The easiest way to combat the winter blues is to act as it is summer. Enjoy outdoor activities and try to stay outdoors during the sun lit hours.

In some northern parts of the country about ten percent of the population is affected by seasonal affective disorder. If you find that your mood does not improve, you can always see a health professional for treatment. There are plenty of treatments available that will have you feeling better in no time.
