Make your Web Site Earn You Money

The success or failure of a web site relies heavily on its design. Designing a web site involves several procedures such as creating mock-ups, defining interfaces, database design, system platform and web page aesthetics, just to name a few.

The overall harmony of the web site components will be key in its performance and efficiency. The ideas that have been the rationale behind the web site must be expressed thoroughly through its web pages. The number of visitors of the web site and the number of actual visitors who have done transaction with the web site are critical factors in assessing the web site's success.

HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) was the very first web design tool that was made available when the Web made its way into the Internet (that was about 1994). HTML files are standard ASCII text files with special formatting codes that the browser can interpret and appropriately display on screen.

Although HTML was initially designed with a standard set of rules, the early browsers by Netscape and Microsoft begun to introduce other features that would only work with their respective browsers. This became a hot topic for the Web denizen. HTML have had several upgrades in the past, the current version is HTML 4.01 which was set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The W3C is a multi-national consortium recognized all over the world. The W3C main goal is to further the development of standards for the Word Wide Web. They comprise mainly of member organization, a regular staff and also recognize public contributions to the Web.

When the Web and the Internet were making headway into almost everyone's computer, designers of web sites begun developing systems that would make their jobs easier and web sites more effective. This paved the way for web development tools to come into existence.

Several tools such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) substituted for table display in HTML. The integration of databases has been deemed inevitable with the popularity of web sites. This need introduced designers to a whole new world of server side scripting languages such as PHP- (Hypertext Preprocessor), Active Server Pages (ASP), Java Server Pages (JSP), Python and ColdFusion.

JavaScript, new image formats and Macromedia Flash have given web designers other alternatives to improve how the web page will look.

Although there have been hundreds and hundreds of web sites developed entirely in Macromedia Flash, search engines could hardly index web pages created in Macromedia Flash. This is one criterion that should be considered before attempting to create a web site.

Almost all web pages use HTML along with several web development tools and are also easily indexed by search engines. This is why web designers often prefer to use web development tool hybrids to have their website running optimally.

There are other webs designs criteria that should be carefully thought about when designing web sites. These criteria can fall under the following categories: Content, Organization and Appearance.

Content involves having useful information on the web pages. When visitors find useful information on a web site chances are they would visit them again. A web sites' purpose should be clearly defined and the targeted audience clearly identified. This would give the web site identity. The website should also have useful links to other web sites of the same theme or similar purpose. Spelling and grammar should be checked and double-checked so as to convey a professionally created site.

Organization involves having your web site easily navigated, simplicity where contents can be summed up in a glance and web pages to browser upload time. Visitors should be able to view your web site in just a matter of seconds not minutes. Visitors tend to jump to other sites if your web site takes too long to upload.

The web sites' appearance plays an important factor in giving the visitors the first impression of your web site. The layout of the images, text, links and animation would define the overall appearance. Graphics and animations are important to the web pages appearance but they also need longer time to download, texts should have the right color and should be readable. The components of a web page must be appropriate to the web sites main theme.

Your web site can be great and also profitable if you follow these certain rules in designing a web site.
