Skins Help and FAQ

ICQ skins can be made by ICQ plus.

1. Open your Windows Explorer. Then go into ICQ PLus==>Skins folder and open a new folder. Here I'm naming it as "alan1".

Prepare at least 3 images for ICQ main, background and menu respectively. Then put the images into the new folder.

Open ICQ Plus from ICQ menu and select "alan1" from the pull down menu.

Press "Edit" to start making a skin.

2. Now, you can make the main image, border, main menu, buttons and animation of ICQ as you like from it.

For example, this is for editing the menu bar of ICQ.

3. After editing the main dialog, you are to edit the background of ICQ via other dialogs.

4. More or less the same as the main dialog, you can edit the border, buttons and animation easily.

5. When you've done it, press Enter and click "Apply" to save the skin.

You can now go to ICQ Plus==>Skins directory to zip the "alan1" folder into a zipped file if you are going to upload it to your homepage.

6. Fianlly, here are some tips which might be useful to you.

Don't use images which are too colorful 'cos the text won't be clear and visible. No one wants a BEAUTIFUL but useless skin!

  • I seldom add animation and buttons to my skins. But it doesn't mean that you can't do that. You're welcome to create skins with your own style.

  • These are the roughly suggested sizes for the images:
    main image: 200x300
    menu image: 28x280
    background image: 430x350
